Content filters

29.Mar.2007

Yesterday I got the chance to attend a talk about “online content on web2.0” given by Rui Gomes (Sapo) and Paulo Querido (Expresso), on the I Encontro Multimédia – ISMT event. Due to my student obligations I did not have the chance to attend to the first part of the presentation. But after it, I got the chance to chat with both speakers about some of the discussions generated during the Q&A session.

A student had brought that the need for someone filtering content will always exist. It’s interesting to see that even now, when we have the ability to search online for only what we want to know, users will always search for places/people that will tell them what’s important for them to know. That’s why there will always be room for the print/online press and journalists. There will always be one Slashdot to compensate some Diggs and Reddits. I don’t dislike community news portals, I agree that they’ve become a very important source of information, specially for the masses. But I cannot agree with the points that claim that, in the future all the information will get will be chosen by the users for the users.

For those who want to see the presentations (in Portuguese), you may find them in the event blog.
